Boat Safety Scheme

The Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) is run by the Environmental Agency and Canal & River Trust and has been in place since 1997.

It aims to guard against boat fires and other safety issues that could potentially harm the marine environment such as pollution and gas explosions.

You are required to take the Boat Safety Examination every four years, and failure to pass the exam will result in you being unable to obtain your Boat Safety Certificate and thus unable to travel on the UK River systems until you gain the relevant safety certificate.

The Boat Safety Scheme is particularly concerned with boating licences, fire safety, gas safety, fuel safety, electrical safety and carbon monoxide safety.

We sell all the relevant products suitable to pass the boat safety scheme, and it is important that all your safety products are up to date before the next examination is due to take place.
